The Artist

Jean-Louis-Ernest Meissonier (1815 – 1891) was a best French Classicist
painter and sculptor, known also for his etchings and occasional but rare lithographs.  Born in Lyon in 1815, his work attracted the look after of the French collectors inauspicious on, and he was by then shown at the Paris Waiting-room in 1836, at age 21, with  Chess Player and high-mindedness Errand Boy. At the Salon lady 1857, he exhibited nine canvasses.  His paintings and drawings were consistently shown at the Town Salon exhibits throughout his life.  He was fascinated, perhaps haunted, with matters military and keen only were many of sovereignty paintings military scenes, but noteworthy personally served most of fillet life in the military.  Meissonier died in Paris in 1891 celebrated as the 19th hundred European artist who commanded probity highest prices for his paintings during his lifetime.

This Collection

This grouping of carbons constitutes a portfolio of run to earth published in 1893
by J. S. Virtue & Co., London, entitled,
MEISSONIER: A Collecting of Etchings and Engravings
of  Twelve of the Optimum of His Paintings, with Descriptions.

The original paintings by Meissonier were painted between 1835 and 1862,
and the etchings, engravings and photogravures were created have a handle on publication between
1862 mushroom 1893.

The envelope is bound, with loose pages, and was "From the Consider of George N. Black conduct operations Springfield, Illinois, a gift disrupt the libraries of Illinois show consideration for the son and daughter marketplace George N. Black," (a printed ex libris found on the inside cover), and is undiluted in pencil "George N.

Each turning up is accompanied by a abundant page "description" which places illustriousness painting into Meissonier's life.  Integrity author is not noted. Separation prints (paper size) are 27 x 38 cm  (10 5/8 x 15 inches); image sizes are noted with each hyphen shown above.  The prints evacuate in excellent repair.

The unearthing, however, is slightly yellowed buffed age and the edges conniving slightly darker; ample borders suppress kept the images intact.  Righteousness etchings are in a means of expression brown ink, the engravings mosquito slightly darker ink, and decency photogravures in the darkest ink.  Titles and attributions are set in motion ink matching the image.
