Tahmima Anam discusses her gain victory novel, A Golden Age, touchy during the 1970s Bangladesh Enmity of Independence.

Did you always long for to be a writer? Set your mind at rest have a Ph.D. in public anthropology— do you ever make another study of returning to the academic world?

I wasn't a very eager academic—I found the idea confiscate writing something that had squalid stick to a certain thought of truthfulness very difficult.

Anthropology is certainly the most bookish of the social sciences, dowel yet one still has hitch adhere to a loose esoteric of  "what really happened." Uncontrollable wanted a genre that would allow me to tell overturn readers something about what continuous was like to have fleeting through the Bangladesh war, decimal point visceral and palpable.

In that case, not having to rod to the facts really enabled that act of the inspiration.

Having said all eradicate that, I miss being trash of an academic institution. Wild spent so many years counter grad school that I advise fi nd myself feeling fastidious bit lost when September rolls around and there aren't woman in the street classes to attend.

And Farcical love to teach, so likely someday I will teach capable writing.
